Biographical Information

For over a decade, Stephen M. Govin has exclusively focused clients accused of crimes. At the Law Office of Stephen M. Govin, LLC, Mr. Govin focuses on a variety of criminal defense issues, including white collar crimes, gun charges and drug crimes. He has extensive experience representing clients with felony charges and has achieved many acquittals before juries, as well as successfully arguing for the suppression of evidence on clients’ behalf. He takes cases in state and federal courts throughout Southeast Wisconsin.

Mr. Govin understands the anxiety and confusion that people accused of crimes may be feeling, as well as the concern of their families. He prides himself on the personal approach he brings to each case, striving to put clients’ minds at ease while building a strong defense. Mr. Govin has built a reputation as a thorough and aggressive defense attorney who remains involved in every aspect of a client’s case.

After graduating from Marquette University in 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts in criminology, Mr. Govin earned his Juris Doctor from Marquette University Law School in 2003. He knew from the outset that he wanted to pursue a career in criminal defense. While in law school, Mr. Govin worked as an intern at Milwaukee County Circuit Court and the Wisconsin Court of Appeals, and practiced law during his last year in law school at the Milwaukee office of the Wisconsin State Public Defender. Today, he is admitted to practice law in Wisconsin and before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin.

Mr. Govin has been named a rising star and super lawyer by Milwaukee Magazine for several years, and is an active member of the Milwaukee Bar Association, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Wisconsin Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
