Representative Cases
- Mr. Mullin secured the dismissal of a six-count indictment brought by the United States Justice Department against a Turkish national engaged in military contracts with the United States Department of Defense. At the outset, the Justice Department had highlighted this case as one involving procurement fraud which endangered United States troops in Iran and Afghanistan. All charges were dismissed in exchange for a one-count plea by his firm, based upon the action of a rogue employee. This dismissal, known as a nolle prosequi, is extremely rare in the federal criminal system.
- In a federal trial, the jury fully acquitted Mr. Mullin’s client, a businessman, on all IRS tax conspiracy charges after deliberating for less than two hours.
- Mr. Mullin secured an acquittal on all 10 counts for his client, a doctor, in a federal criminal case brought by the Drug Enforcement Administration Diversion Unit in the Southern District of New York. To the best of our knowledge, this is the only reported criminal case in which the DEA Diversion Unit has lost on all counts in a criminal case involving a defendant physician.
- Mr. Mullin’s client, a taxpayer with Swiss accounts, was deemed the subject of a criminal investigation by the Internal Revenue Service. The United States Treasury Department accepted a civil settlement in the case.
- Mr. Mullin’s client, a British businessman, was charged in a $20,000,000 mortgage fraud conspiracy in federal court in Texas and faced substantial fines and a prison sentence of over 50 years. The matter concluded with no fine and no incarceration.
