Biographical Information

Mr. Bottar brings more than a decade of experience to the prosecution and trial of medical malpractice, wrongful death, workplace accident and complex personal injury actions, with a focus on claims arising out of birth injuries, stroke, surgical errors, governmental negligence and biomedical product liability.

Mr. Bottar is a graduate of Colgate University and is a summa cum laude graduate of Syracuse University College of Law where he is an adjunct professor, authors the “Civil Practice” chapter of the Syracuse Law Review’s Survey on New York law, and serves on the law school’s Board of Advisors.

Mr. Bottar has achieved an AV® Preeminent™ rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the organization’s highest rating for legal ability and ethical standards.  In recognition of his work in the areas of plaintiffs medical malpractice and personal injury, he was selected by his peers for inclusion in the oldest peer-reviewed publication in the legal profession, The Best Lawyers In America®.  He is also listed in New York Super Lawyers (Upstate), a publication with membership limited to the top 5% of lawyers in each state.

Mr. Bottar has been recognized repeatedly as one of New York’s “Top 10” trial lawyers under age 40 by The National Academy of Personal Injury Attorneys, as one of New York’s “Top 100” trial lawyers by The National Trial Lawyers, and as one of New York’s “Top 40” trial lawyers under age 40 by The National Trial Lawyers and the American Society of Legal Advocates.  He has also been selected by the National Association of Distinguished Counsel as a member of the Nation’s Top 1% of Attorneys, and is life member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum® and the Multi Million Dollar Advocates Forum®.

Mr. Bottar sits on the Board of Directors of the New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers and is a member of its judicial screening committee.  In connection with the Academy of Trial Lawyers and the New York State Bar Association, he lectures regularly throughout New York on medical malpractice, personal injury and trial-related topics.  Over the past three years, Mr. Bottar has provided legal instruction on more than 30 occasions to hundreds of attorneys in Syracuse, Albany, Rochester, Buffalo, New York City and on Long Island.

Mr. Bottar is a past member and executive editor of the Syracuse Law Review, which published his note titled “Robbing Peter to Pay Paul: Medicaid Liens, Supplemental Needs Trusts and Personal Injury Recoveries on Behalf of Infants In New York State Following the Gold Decision.”  Mr. Bottar’s article, which addressed the complexities of personal injury settlements, has been cited as an authority by the Practicing Law Institute (twice), American Jurisprudence Proof of Facts, the American Law Institute, and the American Bar Association’s Real Property Trusts and Estates Law Journal.  In addition to the Syracuse Law Review, he is a past member of the Syracuse University College of Law Moot Court Honor Society, and was inducted into the Order of the Coif, the Order of Barristers, and the Justinian Honorary Law Society.

Mr. Bottar devotes a significant portion of his practice to investigating and litigating birth injuries, including claims for cerebral palsy and developmental delays caused by hypoxia or ischemia, claims for Erb’s palsy due to shoulder dystocia, and claims for failure to diagnose scoliosis and hip dysplasia.  He attends on a biennial basis a week-long medical conference co-hosted by the Center for Human Genetics and Tufts University School of Medicine on “Obstetrics, Gynecology, Perinatal Medicine, Neonatology and the Law.”

Mr. Bottar began his legal career as a litigation associate with the New York City office of White & Case, LLP, one of the largest and most prestigious law firms in the world (1,800 attorneys in 25 countries), with professional highlights including representing a French bank on trial in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, advising Fortune 500 companies on various matters, and conducting depositions and internal investigations in Buenos Aires, Brussels, Paris, Hong Kong and Shanghai.  Immediately prior to joining Bottar Leone, PLLC, Mr. Bottar was a litigation associate with Bond, Schoeneck & King, PLLC, the largest law firm in Syracuse, New York.
