Education
Mr. Kim obtained his Juris Doctor from the UCLA School of Law in 1978. He attended and graduated from University of California, Berkeley where he obtained his B.A. in 1974 with Honors.

COMPLEX BUSINESS
In re Tenet Healthcare Securities Litigation (2003-2009)
Secured $281 Million in Class Action Securities Fraud Case
Mr. Kim and his co-counsel recovered $216 Million in settlement for plaintiff class which sued Tenet Health alleging securities fraud. Additionally, Mr. Kim and his co-counsel recovered an additional $65 Million for the plaintiff class from Tenet Healthcare’s public accounting firm for alleged securities fraud violations.
Cho vs. Republic of Korea (2004)
Saved Korean Government $2 Billion
Mr. Kim successfully obtained the dismissal of a claim for $2 Billion against the Korean Government in which it was alleged that the Korean Government in which it was alleged that the Korean Government had stolen or converted assets belong to the Cho family.
Hong vs. Republic of Korea (2009)
Successfully Defended Korean Government in a wrongful death case
Mr. Kim obtained a dismissal of a wrongful death claim for the payment of a nominal sum to the decedent’s representative on behalf of the Korean government. The wrongful death claim arose out of an accident involving a van which crashed on a California road which was carrying several passengers including the decedent. Mr. Kim also successfully obtained the dismissal of a cross action by a co-defendant for indemnity of a claim for catastrophic personal injury.
Han vs. SCRTD (1993)
Helped Woman recover for head injury from bus crashing into her VW
Mr. Kim and his co-counsel obtained a 7 figure jury verdict on behalf of the plaintiff who received head injuries when a bus crashed into her Volkswagon even though the plaintiff was not wearing a seat belt.
Emplyee vs. Nationwide Retailer
Defended Nationwide Retailer of Women’s Clothes in class action by former employees claiming racial discrimination and wage and hour violation.
Mr. Kim obtained a favorable resolution on behalf of his client which was sued by a class of employees who claimed racial discrimination in which employment and for wage and hour violations in California
Nam vs. Commerce Associates (1990)
Obtained Unanimous Verdict for the buyer of a Shopping center against Seller for fraud
After four weeks of jury trial in downtown Los Angeles, Mr. Kim successfully obtained a unanimous jury verdict for $2.5 Million against a developer who sold the plaintiffs a shopping center allegedly based upon false statements regarding the income the shopping center generated from its tenants.
Sonoma Investment Corporation vs. Francis (1984)
Defended lawyer from claim by Former client that he mishandled disbursement of settlement funds
Following several weeks of a jury trial in Sonoma County, Mr. Kim obtained a favorable settlement for his lawyer client who was sued by his former client for legal malpractice. The lawyer was sued for legal malpractice in which the former client claimed that the lawyer improperly structured the method of payment of an underlying insurance claim.
Pacific Heritage Ventures vs. Hirao (1995)
Secured verdict for Employer against former for diverting employers money to their account
Mr. Kim obtained a jury verdict from an Orange County jury in favor Pacific Heritage Ventures against two of their former employees who allegedly diverted money from Pacific Heritage Ventures to themselves.
Yang vs. Reel Furniture etc
Obtained defense verdict for seller against Buyer who sought to rescind the sale of a manufacturing business and also secured verdict of $1.8 for Seller against Buyer for Balance of Purchase Price
Mr. Kim obtained a defense verdict for his clients (Seller defendants) against the claim that they had breached various warranties in their contract of sales upon the sale of their bed-frame manufacturing company to an overseas businessman and a former banker. The jury also awarded $1.8 Million to Mr. Kim’s clients against the buyers of the manufacturing company for breach of the contract of sale.
CONSTRUCTION DEFECT
Malibu Valley, Inc vs. Figure 5 Investment Group et al
Secured defense verdict for developer (Figure 5) against General Contractor suing for bonus and also Obtained Verdict for Developer for about $1 Million against General Contractor for Shoddy Construction.
After 4 weeks of jury trial, Mr. Kim obtained a jury verdict in favor of the Developer of condominium with units in LA Chinatown, Figure 5 Investment Group, against the General Contractor, Malibu Valley, Inc., which sued Figure 5 for monies allegedly owed under the construction contract. The jury found in favor of Figure 5 against Malibu Valley on claims of defective construction.
